The Defining Choice All Professionals Have to Make

Groundbreaking actress and philanthropist Priyanka Chopra believes each professional is faced with a fundamental choice, in which there are two options.

The first option is to go with the flow, to “dress in suits, go to work, come back, and never have a legacy.” The second – her preferred way – is to do the exact opposite.

“You swim upstream, like a trout, against the norm,” Chopra said in an interview featured on LinkedIn Learning. “And then whatever little you achieve is only yours. It's not like everyone else.”

Why Priyanka Chopra Actively Seeks Out Challenges

Chopra has followed this mantra whenever she feels like she’s getting too comfortable. Even if she’s doing a job that many people would consider a dream – say, as a leading actress in Bollywood – she's pushed herself to try something new, like go to Hollywood.

“As soon as I start getting comfortable in my job, I look for something that challenges me,” Chopra said. “I need to be challenged. I work best, I try best when I'm challenged and when I'm pushed and when I'm under pressure.”

That’s the attitude that’s helped her become one of the biggest Indian actresses in the world and one of the most successful at crossing over to America as well. It’s also pushed her to become a leading philanthropist and a successful recording artist.

“Every successful career, in any field, will definitely, definitely have evolution,” Chopra said. “And evolution is such an important part of being.”

Chopra's point – embrace that evolution, instead of clinging to what's comfortable. That's how you create a true legacy.
