LinkedIn Learning is now home to six courses from Thrive Global and taught by Arianna Huffington, covering topics like meditation, sleep, joy and wellness.

The rapid rise of digital technology has created an “always on” professional norm. Email, text messages and social media are all constantly competing for our immediate attention, and it’s taking a toll. Studies evidence the consequences of this lifestyle among modern professionals – what’s come to be a startling epidemic of stress and burnout. Consider the following:

  • 70 percent of US employees say they feel burnt out, according to the Family and Work Institute. This sentiment only increases as professionals move up the ladder with 96 percent of senior leaders reporting feeling burnt out. (Harvard Medical School)

  • Over 75 percent of all healthcare costs in the United States are for treatment of chronic conditions for which the leading cause is stress, according to the CDC.

  • Loss of sleep, despite the extra hours employees put in at work, adds up to more than eleven days of lost productivity per year per worker, or about $2,280. (Harvard Medical School)

To address this pervasive issue, we’re excited to announce our partnership with Thrive Global and our new library of courses focused on teaching science-based methods for helping today’s professionals combat these chronic conditions of stress and burnout. Now, professionals across the globe can learn directly from business icon Arianna Huffington, as well as guest trainers like Kobe Bryant and Warby Parker CEO Dave Gilboa, to incorporate these facets of well-being into their lives.

The six new LinkedIn Learning courses launching today are:

A Crucial Cultural Shift

We are at an important inflection point where the deeply embedded cultural belief that burnout is the price we must pay for success is being challenged and even scientifically debunked. Numerous studies evidence the fact that when we prioritize our well-being, our decision-making, creativity and productivity improve dramatically.  

These findings not only shed light on the benefits of mindfulness, meditation, sleep, unplugging and other facets of well being to the individual professional, but also clearly and conclusively evidence the benefit to organizations whose learning and development programs incorporate employee training on these skills. Employees who are encouraged by their employers to learn these wellness methods are shown to be more engaged, creative and productive, which meaningfully boosts talent retention and a company’s bottom line.

Although wellness training should no longer be viewed as a nice to have, but a need to have, it can be challenging for professionals to dedicate full hours to supplemental learning. We’re, therefore, excited to announce that we’ll also be providing Arianna’s courses in a “Daily Bites” format. These segments will enable learners to learn key takeaways and tools from each course in less than five minutes!
