You Can Now Learn How to Play an Instrument on Lynda.com
September 1, 2016
Basically, all the coolest people who have graced this earth played instruments.
Johnny Cash. Prince. Elvis Presley. The list goes on and on.
And now, through Lynda.com, you can join that group.
Already, we have classes on songwriting, music production and how to make money in the music business. But, starting today, we finally have the missing piece of the puzzle – you can now learn how to play an instrument on Lynda.com.
Specifically, we have teamed up with two of the world’s premier providers of music lessons – ArtistWorks and Alfred Music – to launch 14 initial courses on how to play the guitar, piano, bass and drums, and even how to sing better. We shall continue working with them in the future to cover more and more instruments.
So what is it like learning an instrument on Lynda.com?
It isn’t much different than learning anything on Lynda.com. We have video classes on each subject taught by an expert in the field – in this case, prolific guitar, piano, drum and bass players, along with singers.
The instructor will walk you through the basics of the instrument, demonstrate methods for improving your playing technique and demonstrate how to play and sing songs better, always in the context of playing music.
Specifically, here’s a lesson from the Lynda.com course Bluegrass Guitar Lessons, which was sourced from ArtistWorks. The clip explains how to play the C,G and D cords on the Bluegrass guitar and is taught by Bryan Sutton, a Grammy award-winning musician who has worked with the Dixie Chicks, Taylor Swift and Dolly Parton, among others.
Here’s another lesson from the Lynda.com course Drum Set Instruction: On The Beaten Path, sourced from Alfred Music. In the clip, instructor Rich Lackowski shows how to play the Led Zeppelin classic, When The Levee Breaks:
Classes are aimed at the introductory-to-intermediate player. Also, it’s worth noting this isn’t an add-on buy – music lessons come as part of our Lynda.com library, which is composed of more than 4,500 courses, covering everything from leadership to the latest technologies to AutoCAD.
